Built by Royal IHC, and delivered in 2018, the TSHD (Trailing Suction Hopper Dredger) called DC Orisant has a length of 142 m, beam of 23 m, a total power of 11,000 kW and speed of 16 knots. Thanks to its diesel-electric power plant configuration, together with an advanced power management system, the vessel is able to operate by dynamic positioning and thus be far more efficient than dredgers that are not equipped with this system.
It is noteworthy that since the engines for the dredging or pumping system are interchangeable with those for propulsion, the vessel has a high degree of redundancy. Nominated in 2019 as vessel of the year is a clear example of a technologically advanced vessel, capable of operating with a very high performance, as far as emissions and fuel consumption are concerned.
