Cruise around the Helsinki Archipelago

Cruise around the Helsinki Archipelago

Stock Press Photo | Helsinki Archipelago

It is estimated that there are about 300 islands in the Helsinki area. Most of them are quite small, more than half are less than half a hectare in area. There are about 50 islands larger than three hectares, and a good fifth of them are small islets (less than 0.1 ha) or kares.
In the past, there have been many more islands, but they have disappeared through various fillings and mergers. The archipelago is an area about 20 kilometers wide and 10 kilometers deep in the direction of the coast. The water depth at the outer edge of the archipelago is about 30 meters and at the city border in the south in places about 60 meters.
